Chic yet relaxed, and overflowing with charm and elegance, the beautiful building for Laurent began as a hunting lodge, and became a dance hall during the Revolution. In 1842, it was restored by the German architect Jacques-Ignace Hittorff, who was commissioned at the time by King Louis Philippe to plan the Champs-Elysées. The restaurant got its name from the first name of its third owner, in 1860.

{travel inspiration | places : le laurent restaurant, paris}

{travel inspiration | places : le laurent restaurant, paris}

The restaurant's current director, Philippe Bourguignon, arrived as head sommelier in 1977 and just a year later, at the age of 27, was named best sommelier in France.  In 2002, he took over the management of Laurent.  Still passionate about wine to this day, he is a member of the Académie du Vin and visiting speaker at the Ecole Polytechnique.

If you are visiting in the summertime, be certain to find a place in the garden terrace for lunch or dinner—a romantically secluded setting, behind manicured hedges and next to a fountain designed by Hittorff, it is an oasis of flowers and fragrance, a bit of countryside in the heart of the Champs-Elysées . . .

If you have ever wondered about how posts are constructed, sometimes, just sometimes, it is a beautiful combination of serendipity, luck, and happenstance, that could begin with a mohair coat . . .

If you follow Australian fashion model, Miranda Kerr, on instagram, you would have seen her in this exquisite, light-as-air gown by Australia's premier couturier, Alex Perry, "whose trademark is "beautifully cute handcrafted pieces with quality finishes in the most luxurious fabrics" — doesn't that just sound utterly perfect?

Pale pink & dove grey may be the colours for autumn, but am inexplicably drawn to the deep browns, tans, and warm pinks of the Lyford Cay Club in the Bahamas, decorated by Tom Scheerer.  Perhaps it is the magical palm trees, trellises and latticework, or the amazing striped tent ceiling, or the combination of all these things that makes everyday feel like a tropical holiday . . .

{out of office message & hello}

A bright a beautifully sunny day today, and still very much summertime here, although one can not deny the pale mornings and cashmere cardigan evenings that have quietly crept in . . . And being always and forever in love with summer, there has not been many things, [not even the anticipation of turning leaves], that would make me wish autumn's return any time soon, but if there were, it would be this image, with its shades of sable and warm earthy tones, long coats and faux fur stoles and rich prints & patterns and chignons . . .

{p.s.} still away and dealing with a rather major catastrophe, but hoping for the best, and to be back at the office soon -- hope you're having a spectaculary lovely week so far x

{hope you're having a beautiful weekend & a few lovely links}

And this note was written from the romance of a train, gliding along the countryside and the coast—for this weekend, it's back in beautiful London, room service and travel cases and dinner reservations at old favourites and new places to try, a music festival and long weekend, and summer's last fling . . .

Hope you're having a perfectly wonderful late-August weekend, and that it's beautiful where you are, —Roséline xo

{at the shops | favourite things & new things to look forward to}

favourite-things01

While there very well may be no one who is more sad to see summer's end, there are things to look forward to when the leaves begin to fall -- drives in the countryside, new scents and pink coats are just a few . . .

Late-August is the time when everything is at its greenest; the sun has been shining all summer long and the water is warm and the leaves full; there is a particular heavy haziness to the air, not unlike the deep greens and whites of this beautiful wedding which actually took place in the spring, so very far away from where we are now . . .

. . . because it looks like the english countryside, and every time this year, am always so very drawn to this very thing -- lace and tweeds and roses on old stone cottages, whippets and picnics and the last of the golden summer sun . . .

As you may remember, have been searching for the perfect leopard print area rug [or anything suitable for that matter] for the living room for what seems like forever now, and was not having much luck at all, when Medallion Rug Gallery arrived on the scene, offering to send along a selection from their vast array of beautiful handmade area rugs.

{table for two | recipe : buttery croissants}

One of the things that you can't help but miss about France is the smell of freshly baked bread and pastries wafting leisurely through the narrow streets. It welcomes you at the earliest hours in the morning and manages to bring some warmth and cosiness to an otherwise gloomy an rainy day . . .

{travel inspiration | places : at the parisian flower markets}

There are few better things than an early rise on a Parisian Sunday morning and, after putting on a casual yet utterly romantic grey sweatshirt with a wool skirt and picking up your wicker basket, stopping by your favourite café for a morning croissant, café au lait and maybe even an éclair au chocolat on your way to your favourite street market . . .

{travel inspiration | places : at the parisian flower markets}

Perhaps, for tonight's dinner, the best organic fromage, freshly baked baguettes, a bottle of red wine, and of course flowers, presented to you in the most impossibly enchanting of ways, from simple newspaper wraps to pastel-coloured pails . . .

The first official family photographs have just been released : The Duke & Duchess and tiny Prince George Alexander Louis of Cambridge, and of course, Lupo, the cocker spaniel.  The photos were taken by Kate's father, Michael Middleton, in the garden of the Middleton family home in Bucklebury earlier this month.

And this weekend was countryside drives in the golddrenched late-summer sun and dusky old antiques shops; the discovery of a new and utterly charming candlelit wine bar and a chic [secret] one; garden centres and palest pink roses at the supermarket, fireworks and festivities, and late, late nights . . . And also on this new August week, a little note to say thank you -- there are have been so many lovely notes, tweets, and instagram comments and [especially] emails [hello, P.K. from South India], lately -- thanks so much!   Most of you have been following along since the very beginning, and just wanted to say thank you -- you really are the very loveliest. x
