Dries van Noten is the master of prints and with the spring 2014 collection, his reign might just have extended to frills and pleats. The inspirations behind this collection were women such as Loulou de la Falaise and Charlotte Rampling, whose wardrobes were enriched by their travel experiences. This fact translated in the choice of contrasting fabrics and beautifully incorporated elements like tassels and embroideries. [click continue to read more]

When taking a closer look at the collections presented in New York, this particular picture caught my attention. Delicate lace enhances a classic little black dress and luxurious satin covers the shoulders in the form of a long coat. It seems as though Wes Gordon has not only captured the essence of elegance, but also the aesthetic of This Is Glamorous in one single look.

{table for two | breakfast inspiration : soft boiled eggs & toast soldiers}

One very sunny morning in London not long ago, P and I stopped by a favourite terrace café in Belgravia for coffee and brunch.  A latte for him, and a soy flat white for me, and we both ordered the soft boiled eggs with toast soldiers, a favourite breakfast dish that may possibly overtake a longstanding love affair with eggs benedict . . .

photography-by-roseline

Once home again, and on one leisurely Sunday at summer's end, thought we might try to recreate this now favourite and delectable dish.  But soft boiled eggs can be quite tricky -- often too runny or overcooked -- and after a few failed attempts, finally happened the perfect recipe . . .

MASCULINE MEETS FEMININE was Peter Copping's intention for the Nina Ricci spring collection at the Jardin des Tuileries in Paris.  The eighteenth century was also an inspiration, but whatever the case may be, there were ruffles and lace, gold lamé and perfect romance . . .

Three Michelin starred and highly acclaimed by food writers worldwide, Restaurant le Meurice overlooks the Jardin des Tuileries.  Inside, there are golden crown mouldings atop elegant marble, gilded chandeliers and extravagantly painted ceilings and walls, and one can not help but be whisked away to a magical place of grandeur and romance, and the taste of forgotten classics . . .

Behind the scenes at Roberto Cavalli's S/S 2014 show were visions of silver screen sirens from the 1930s in backless bias-cut gowns, Art Deco caftans faintly swaying on the slender shoulders of impossibly beguiling women, and elegant white stoles draped over heavily-embellished and shimmering gowns, as if reflecting the spellbinding charm and allure that icons like Veronica Lake seemed to naturally possess . . .

First discovered the blog, Photisserie, through Marzena at Definitely Golden. The name comes from the joining of her two passions, photography and pâtisserie, and the site follows the culinary adventures of photographer and patissière Kathreinerle.  After studying in Germany, she packed her things -- two of which were a Photoapperat and Kitchenaid -- and moved to Paris to learn the craft of French pâtisserie.  You will become lost in a world of châteaus and early autumn apple pies, cosy coffee houses with ornate silverware, and perhaps even find a new recipe or two . . .

It's a time of transition between summer and autumn, when days aren't warm enough to be able to freely slip on some white shorts and a marl gray tee without needing a cashmere cardigan and some biker boots, but aren't cold enough to layer on a beautiful camel coat over a pair of jeans and a ribbed knit sweater without seeming entirely out of place. It is however, the ideal time to emulate Jessica Alba and her impossibly chic ballerina-inspired look . . .

Nothing makes the combination of pink & black more perfect than attending Ralph Lauren's S/S 2014 fashion show in the most feminine yet slightly windswept chiffon skirt in a beautiful hue of misty rose paired with a black cropped ribbed jersey and strappy black heels; and just like Audrey in Breakfast at Tiffany's, a so-very-classic chignon [more inspiration here & here], along with diamond studs and cat-eye sunglasses . . .

This romantic vintage diamond ring arrived in the post late last week from San Francisco, and it is so very delicate and chic, it has not left my finger since.  And so, by introduction, this week's {at the shops} is a very special one, for proprietor, Lynn Goldfinger-Abram, and I go back a bit, to the early days of TIG, when she was one of the very first banner advertisers on the site, some four or five years ago.  We have kept in touch all this time, and so, today, thought it might be lovely to tell you about her shop, Paris Hotel Boutique . . .

{at the shops : paris hotel boutique, san francisco}

A vintage décor collector and antiques enthusiast, Lynn's fondness for hotel silver, antique furnishings and such, would grow into a spectacular collection of period pieces, eventually leading to an antiques business in 1995.  An online shop would open in 2002, filled with furnishings from Europe and first edition books, paintings, Mid-Century decor, and a beautiful collection of old hotel souvenirs and silver from the late 1800s through the mid 20th century, evocative of the grace and elegance of another time and place.  And so, a few favourite things from the shop . . .
